Margarita
Nephila madagascariensis

Margarita was one of my Nephila madagascariensis spiders, a collaborator in The Spider Project. I gave her her name after she lost one of her legs in a territory fight with her sister Bathsheba, the largest and dominant of the group. Margarita is German for Daisy (she loves me, she loves me not...).

Margarita was 18cm long with a body length of 3cm. She laid four cocoons, has approximately 300 children so far, and holds the record for the largest web among her siblings, 110cm in diameter. She died November 10, 1998, at the age of eight and a half months.
